Here’s what IGN editor Jeremy Dunham has to say about this sad situation…
It has been said that it takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and to embrace the new, and I can attest to how true that is with the following announcement. After more than 10 years of service and tens of millions of your letters, IGN.com is officially retiring its multi-channel mailbag.
Of course, the most obvious question is, “Why? Why remove a proven method of communication between editor and reader?” and “What does this mean for the future of audience/ staff interaction?” The answer to all those questions is one that typically dictates such amendments — progress.
IGN is has justified the end of Mailbags with the addition of Digg and various other bookmark links? … sigh.
The good news is that Matt and Mark are going to continue to answer reader mail through the Wii-k in review podcast.
